The difference between the IGCSE and the MYP explained

IGCSE or MYP (Middle Years Programme)? These two frameworks are key references in international education. However, they do not share exactly the same objectives. So what is the difference? IGCSE and MYP two different but complementary approaches

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an internationally recognised qualification usually taken in Grade 9 or 10, around the ages of 14 to 16. It validates a certain academic level across various subjects.

The MYP, or Middle Years Programme, is part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. It is a comprehensive educational programme covering the middle school years, from Grade 6 to Grade 10, without requiring a final diploma.

The focus is on critical thinking, research, collaboration, and problem solving.

In reality, there is no right or wrong choice between the IGCSE and the MYP. The key is to match the programme to the student’s needs and personality.
