International Primary School: PYP programme - ICS Paris

International PYP programme: a solid foundation for global learning

At ICS Paris International School, we believe that the foundations for a strong education are laid from the earliest years. This is why we offer the international Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 3 to 11.

Adopted by many international schools in France and around the world, the PYP is far more than just a school curriculum. Developed within the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB), it provides a comprehensive, student-centred approach to learning that encourages curiosity, critical thinking and respect for others.

What is the PYP?

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is the very first stage of the International Baccalaureate (IB) education system. It is specifically designed to meet the needs of young children aged 3 to 11, respecting their individual pace of development.

This international programme combines academic rigour with cultural openness and a transdisciplinary approach. Students explore a variety of themes that span several subject areas, helping them to better understand the world around them.

At ICS Paris, the PYP is built on:

  • A stimulating and caring learning environment
  • The integration of modern technologies
  • An innovative STEAM programme (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) in partnership with LEGO® Education
  • A wide range of in-class activities
  • Personalised support in English
  • Music and physical education lessons
  • Enrichment activities beyond the classroom
  • Regular contributions from external specialists
  • School trips and educational visits

From the moment they arrive, children are immersed in an International Multilingual and multicultural environment. Teaching is organised around projects, research and discussions. Students learn to ask questions, seek answers, and develop their own point of view.

PYP vs MYP: what’s the difference?

The PYP (Primary Years Programme) is designed for children aged 3 to 11. It establishes the fundamental foundations of learning: independence, critical thinking and open-mindedness.

The MYP (Middle Years Programme) follows on from the PYP and is aimed at students aged 11 to 14. It builds on the skills acquired during the PYP and introduces more complex concepts across the different subject areas.

In summary:

PYP = early years to primary school, holistic learning, natural curiosity

MYP = secondary school years, deeper thinking, preparation for the IB Diploma
