UNESCO : COP 29

UNESCO : COP 29

As part of our continued commitment to interdisciplinary learning and global citizenship, ICS Paris proudly hosted its student-led COP 29 Conference on Education for Sustainable Development on Friday, June 6th, during UNESCO Week.

Organised by students from Grades 6A, 7B, and 7C, this exciting event exemplified the spirit of the IB Learner Profile—bringing together knowledge from Science and Individuals and Societies to explore real-world challenges through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s theme centred around Education for Sustainable Development, and the conference was nothing short of inspiring. From start to finish, our students demonstrated exceptional initiative—not only curating the content but also designing brochures, coordinating the guest list, conducting interviews, and even managing the event livestream on the Inside ICS YouTube Channel.

The dynamic two-hour programme reflected a deep understanding of global issues and creative problem-solving. Key highlights included:

  • Models of sustainable cities showcasing eco-friendly urban planning

  • An innovative robot prototype designed to clean the environment

  • A thought-provoking panel discussion on gender equality

  • A student-produced documentary exploring mental health and well-being

  • An engaging talk show on justice and peace, sparking meaningful dialogue

One of the most thrilling moments of the morning? The high-energy Buzzer Quiz Showdown on SDG 4: Quality Education, where students narrowly edged out a team of enthusiastic parents, winning by just one point.

Held during UNESCO Week (June 2–6), this event served as a timely reminder of the values we share as members of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network. As the UNESCO constitution powerfully states:
"Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed."

Through this conference, our students not only explored sustainable solutions but also embraced their role as future changemakers—collaborating, leading, and innovating in ways that will shape a more just and peaceful world.

A heartfelt thank you to our engaged parents, passionate educators, and, most importantly, our young global citizens, whose voices and visions truly made this COP 29 a memorable milestone in our school’s journey toward a sustainable future.
