Students Demonstrate Global Citizenship and Empathy in Relief Effort for Jamaica

We are incredibly proud to share how our students have shown initiative, empathy, and a deep sense of global citizenship through their recent efforts to raise money for those affected by the recent disaster in Jamaica.

This heartfelt response, led by both our Primary and Secondary Student Councils, is a shining example of how our learners embody the values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme — taking meaningful action and making a difference in the world around them.

Student Agency in Action

Student agency is at the core of the IB philosophy. It is about empowering students to take ownership of their learning and their place in the community. What we saw today is exactly that:

  • Identifying a real-world issue.

  • Organizing a response.

  • Inspiring their peers and teachers to get involved.

This fundraising initiative truly demonstrated what it means to be active, caring members of a global community.

A Joint Community Effort

Seeing our Primary and Secondary students working together was such a pleasure—a real example of students learning from, and with, each other. This inter-council collaboration was highly effective and amplified the message across all grade levels.

This initiative provided a meaningful context for students to see how their efforts, no matter how small they seem individually, can collectively bring hope and support to others in times of need.

We commend our Student Councils and all the students and staff who participated for their outstanding commitment to service and for setting such a powerful example of compassion.
