ECO-WEEK 2025
From March 17th to 21st, 2025, students, teachers, and families at ICS Paris came together to celebrate Eco Week, a dedicated time for hands-on environmental learning and sustainability initiatives.
The event encouraged students from all grades to engage in projects focused on nature, conservation, and biodiversity.
Throughout the week, each grade participated in eco-friendly activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of sustainability. Younger students explored the wonders of plant life by engaging in hands-on planting projects. Grade 1 students focused on the life cycle of vegetables by planting from food scraps, demonstrating how kitchen waste can be repurposed for growth. Grade 2 students took a deeper dive into agriculture by planting potatoes, while Grade 4 cultivated basil seeds, learning about herbs and their uses. Meanwhile, French classes introduced students to the beauty of Ipomée flowers, reinforcing lessons on biodiversity and the importance of green spaces.
In addition to gardening projects, students also explored the vital role of insects in maintaining ecosystems. Grade 3 students participated in a special initiative to create bee-friendly environments, understanding how pollinators support plant growth. Over in the Early Environmental Learning Center (EELC), a worm farm was created to promote composting and soil health, reinforcing the importance of organic waste management.
Eco Week also sparked curiosity through engaging quizzes and activities. Grades 2, 3, and 4 tested their environmental knowledge in the ICS Paris biodiversity quiz, while Grade 5 students took part in the WWF Globeducate quiz, furthering their awareness of global conservation efforts.
The highlight of the week was Friday, March 21st, when the entire school came together to show their commitment to sustainability. Students and staff were invited to wear green clothing or accessories, symbolizing their dedication to environmental responsibility. In exchange, participants contributed either a small donation of 1€, a plant, or a packet of seeds, helping to support future green initiatives within the school.
Midweek, on Wednesday from 1 PM to 3 PM, the school’s eco-conscious community—parents, staff, and members of the Primary and Secondary Eco Clubs—worked together in the school garden. Volunteers refilled garden beds using compost from the school’s bins, planted flowers and vegetables, and even helped construct a vertical garden to maximize green space. External workshops provided insight into seed distribution and the creative use of plants for painting, merging art with sustainability. Students also contributed to biodiversity-themed art projects, adding vibrant environmental messages to the school’s canteen area.
Eco Week 2025 was a resounding success, fostering a shared sense of responsibility for the planet. Through hands-on learning, collaborative projects, and interactive experiences, students were empowered to become active stewards of the environment, ensuring a greener future for all.
